집- how quickly leaving had been and how slow returning is

Surya Suran Gied

to

Opening: FRI, August 29, 6pm

집 – how quickly leaving had been and how slow returning is, on view at the Kasseler Kunstverein, marks German-Korean artist Surya Suran Gied’s most expansive engagement with multimedia to date. Drawing on autobiographical fragments, her work focuses on reapproaching cultural origin and recalibrating identity—bypassing language altogether in favor of a pictorial, tactile, and sensory practice. In this site-specific installation, painting, sculpture, video, and mnemonic objects converge into a material collage that questions dominant forms of remembrance. Gied opens space for a different kind of memory work—one shaped by displacement, matrilineal history, and diasporic experience, yet grounded in personal resonance, affect, and embodied knowledge.
